Houston City Council created the "Jewel Ritual" to honor our Past Presidents. This ritual is given to our Outgoing President by our President Elect each year during our Founder's Day celebration in April.
The first "Jewel Ritual" was conferred on seventeen past presidents of Houston City Council at Founder’s Day in April 1976 by Virginia Lee, President Elect.
A Past President of HCC is called a "Jewel" as in the performance of her duties, she has risen above her own and her Chapter's interests to represent and care for each member and each chapter in Council. Her leadership makes possible the cooperation and unified effort which are required to discharge the joint purposes and goals of our Council. She is that one special "Jewel" which like a diamond combines the light of all the gems into clear, white light in which all things may be seen clearly and the way ahead made plain.
